Also known as Bihar Yoga was developed by Swami Satyananda Saraswati. Grounded in ancient traditions, this system of Yoga is adapted to meet the needs of modern society.Satyananda Yoga incorporates an awareness of all aspects of being; Satyananda Yoga promotes the alignment of the delicate balance between body, mind, emotions and spirit. Through awakening the individual’s awareness and inherent self-healing powers, physical disease and mental stress can be managed and relieved. By steadying the emotions and calming the mind, a sense of perspective can be gained, bringing a feeling of peace, freedom and inner strength. Satyananda Yoga Sessions encourages for embracing a balanced approach for practices of ‘Asana, Pranayama, Mundra, Bandhas, Mantra Chanting, Relaxtion, Meditaion & Shatkarma ’ for holistic development of personality, health and well being.
Based on the teachings of beloved guru swami sivananda and on the principles of the 5 points of yoga, the sivananda training system aims to teach an authentically vedic system of yoga and believes that retaining the vitality of the body is a byproduct of the discipline and not the goal. The system philosophies are summarized in 5 principles.
Proper exercise: Asanas | Proper breathing: Pranayama | Proper relaxation: Savasana | Proper diet: Vegetarian such foods are Sattvic. | Positive thinking and meditation: Vedanta and Dhyana
A session of training typically starts with every practitioner resting in savasana, and begins with the pranayama (breathing exercises) kapalabhati and anuloma viloma, preceding rounds of sūrya namaskār, before the standard program of the 12 basic asanas. A session averages 60 minutes, and the traditional program has a basic sequence, allowing for some variation in the later part of the sequence.
Iyengar Yoga, named after and developed by B. K. S. Iyengar, s a form of Hatha yoga that has an emphasis on detail, precision and alignment in the performance of posture (asana) and breath control (pranayama). The development of strength, mobility and stability is gained through the asanas. Iyengar Yoga often makes use of props, such as belts, blocks, and blankets, as aids in performing asanas (postures). The props enable students to perform the asanas correctly, minimizing the risk of injury or strain, and making the postures accessible to both young and old. Iyengar Yoga is firmly based on the traditional eight limbs of yoga as expounded by Patanjali in his Yoga Sutras. Iyengar Yoga is a form of Hatha yoga in which there is a focus on the structural alignment of the physical body through the development of asanas. Through the practice of a system of asanas, it aims to unite the body, mind and spirit for health and well-being. The discipline is considered by its practitioners to be a powerful tool to relieve the stresses of modern-day life, in turn helping to promote total physical and spiritual well-being.
I am attending yoga classes at this centre since Dec 2023 and am absolutely loving it. The classes commence and conclude on time. The instructors are stalwarts and encourage you to do your best every day. There is a sea of change in my flexibility and an improvement in my stamina. I truly recommend 136.1 and can say that i am a proud member of this centre.
It's been exactly four weeks since I joined 136.1 and I must say I can feel the difference! The classes are flexible to take, with each instructor bringing a unique learning on a daily basis - Shantanu, Sofia and Rao. The atmosphere of the class is really calm and serene - couldn't have found a better place to start my yoga journey.
This place is amazing, It breathes peace and tranquility. It is clean, pleasant and has a group of very good instructors, although my favorites are Nishant, Sanghamitra and Rashmi. The staff is also friendly. I am very lucky that a friend recommended this place to me.
136.1 has become my go-to yoga haven. They offer a diverse class schedule catering to all levels. Whether you're seeking an energizing vinyasa flow or a deeply relaxing restorative session with some gentle guidance, there's a perfect class to match your mood and fitness goals. The studio itself is an oasis of calm. The space is impeccably clean and well-maintained, creating a serene environment that instantly puts you at ease. The front-end staffs are incredibly welcoming. But, 136.1 goes beyond the typical yoga studio experience. They foster a strong sense of community by hosting workshops and social events. These events are a fantastic way to connect with fellow yogis, learn new skills, and celebrate the practice of yoga together. It's the perfect place to unwind, challenge yourself, and find your inner zen.
I just joined this academy during their summer offer. It's perfect for people like me as a beginner. The trainers are super experienced and they really care about helping you Here's why I love it: The vibe is awesome - it's really positive and motivating. They have special classes on Saturdays for free, which is pretty sweet. The class timings are flexible. It's totally worth the money.
136.1 Yoga and Wellness Academy is a Serene place to start your Yoga journey. I had joined the class with my mother who is a first time yoga practitioner…It was indeed tough for her in the beginning but through constant motivation from every instructor in the Academy she is showing consistent progress and great improvement. For me it is a place of tranquility..Away from all the distractions and it has indeed helped me towards my inner self. It is a place filled with warm smiles and all the instructors are very supportive. It is a place which I would love to recommend to anyone who is willing to start their journey on Yoga.
I started my yoga practice at 136.1. And I had the some exceptional teachers who helped me. After the Covid break, I have restarted my yoga classes at 136.1. I am so at peace to be back at the place it all started. And I feel the same energy, dedication, not to mention the impeccably maintained classroom that was one of its strengths.
I've recently started attending yoga classes and each session leaves me feeling incredibly relaxed and refreshed. The atmosphere is truly serene and the instructors are not only skilled but also incredibly friendly. They patiently guided me through every asana until I achieve it. Their dedication to teaching and inclusivity is truly commendable. Moreover, I've noticed a positive change in my body, feeling a gradual and healthy weight loss. Overall, it is an enriching and transformative journey. Highly recommend this yoga class!
136.1 is one of the nicest yoga studios I have come across! The instructors and studio are such a great experience that I look forward to starting my day early with a yoga class. Special mention to Shantanu & Sofia, for being such great instructors and guiding us through our sessions seamlessly and with ease! The schedule is set in a manner that can suit everyone's needs and you will be motivated to keep at it, not just because of the great instructors, but also because of the ambience. It is a holistic experience and I would strongly recommend anyone wanting to get healthy, both physically and mentally to join! You will not be disappointed. 🙂
I'm in Chennai, on a visit from England. I have been practicing yoga for some time and took the opportunity to try yoga, whilst I'm here. The studios are very clean, and relaxing. They are a good size, so it is always easy to hear and see the instructors. The timetable is clear, so it has been easy to choose classes, (there's quite a variety) and there is no limit to how many you can attend. The instructors I have experienced so far, have been excellent. They give good instructions, very easy to understand, and for me personally I'm glad that they speak English. I believe I would still have a good yoga class, no matter what language the instructors spoke, as it would be easy to follow the participants. The fees are very reasonable, and they have good facilities. These weekends I participated in a session with props, which was new to me. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and a kind class member took some pictures, and sent them to me. I am looking forward to the classes that I will have over the next 3 weeks. Essential Information: for hygiene purposes you need to bring your own yoga mat.
